Bachelor of science in medical lab technology imparts knowledge on various aspect of health care. The professionals of the field diagnose diseases with clinical laboratory tests. They also learn about diagnosis, treatment and prevention of the disease during the course. The course is also known as clinical laboratory science. The body fluids, tissue and blood are analysed in labs. The course fee is from 2,00,000 to 3,00,000 and it varies with institutes. 

Eligibility!

Students who have completed their higher secondary from the science stream are eligible to apply to the course. The percentage obtained in the higher secondary is considered for the admission while some institutes conduct entrance examinations for the course and a pass is essential to get admission. Students who have good analytical skills can take up BSc medical lab technology course. Students should also be accurate with their diagnosis and it comes with practice.

The Course Content And Curriculum!

These professionals do not come in direct contact with the patients but their roles are no lesser and without their accurate diagnosis things would have been different. You cannot think of accurate diagnosis without lab tests. Practical based learning help students understand the subjects better. Some of the subjects are microbiology, human anatomy, physiology, subsidiary subjects, pathology, blood bank procedures, immunology, coagulation studies, virology, biochemistry, computer applications, ethics and database management, laboratory management and automation, etc. 

The lab testing training is provided during the course and most institutes concentrate on communication skills and development of other skills as part of the course. The professionals need to write reports so their communication and presentation skills need to be improved during the course. One-year mandatory internship after the three years full time course will lend valuable insights in the professional field. 

Placements!

Students after pursuing their master’s can take up teaching assignments in colleges. They could work in hospitals, diagnostic centres, pharmaceutical industries, etc. After considerable experience these technicians can start their own labs. They could work as laboratory managers, research associates, laboratory testing managers, health care administrators, etc. An initial salary of about 3- 4 lakhs per annum is paid to them and with experience and higher ranks it will definitely increase.
