Nickel is one such metal that has numerous uses in the industrial arena. However, the oxide of nickel is equally useful. Nickel oxide or NiO is a chemical compound that exhibit either green or black color. As a matter of fact, there are two more oxides of nickel. However, nickel oxide is the only well characterized form.

NiO can be produced in numerous ways. The mineral through which NiO can be extracted is bunsenite. Nevertheless, this mineral is quite rare, and for this reason other methods are preferred for the manufacturing of Nickel Oxide powder.

Manufacturing and Used of Nickel Oxide powder

Nickel oxide can be produced by reacting nickel and oxygen at temperature over 400 deg C. The green form of nickel oxide powder is produced by blending NiO with water and heating the mixture at 1000 deg C. This is the most widely used way for producing the powder at commercial scale. Apart from this method, the process of pyrolysis is also used for the production of NiO powder. In fact, it is the most convenient way of production.

Coming to the applications of NiO powder, there are many uses of it. When it comes to the producing electrical ceramics, nickel oxide nano powder is used. Varistors and thermistors are the examples of such ceramics. In addition, the powder can also be used for the pigmentation of glasses, glazes and ceramics. It is always vital to purchase high grade and pure NiO powder in order to ensure good results.
